End of Tenancy Carpet Cleaning
Moving out of a rental property can be a stressful experience. There’s the packing, the whole issue of relocating, finding movers, or renting a moving truck, and then there’s enlisting friends and family to help out. If there’s one piece of advice that you could give to anyone who’s ending their tenancy at a rental property, what would it be? Well there’s something that Brenton could tell them. Don’t forget to have the carpets cleaned!
If there’s one mistake that renters make time, and time again, it’s forgetting to have the carpets cleaned before moving out. If you’re a renter who’s reading this. You would know all about your bond, or tenancy deposit. Usually it’s a significant amount of money that you laid down at the beginning of your tenancy, to protect the landlord for any damage that might be caused to their house. Of course you’re not liable for things like general wear and tear, which is expected (and you’re protected by law here too), but you can be liable for things like excessive staining, and odors on the carpets. So if the landlord has to have these cleaned himself, it will be deducted from your deposit, and no, he won’t always go for the most cost effective option, and if he does the cleaning himself, he can bill you for his time, and any equipment used.
The best way that you can protect yourself from deductions on your tenancy deposit, is to ensure that the house is cleaned well before you’re moving out. This involves making sure any outside areas are clean and tidy, along with the interior. This means, sweeping up and making sure any grass is cut, window sills, windows, walls etc. are all wiped down, and of course, the carpets should be clean and fresh. Upon a final inspection, providing that you’ve made half an effort to have the property presentable, the landlord will agree to return the tenancy deposit without deductions. But if you haven’t made the effort, disputes can arise.
If you haven’t maintained the carpet throughout the course of your tenancy then a quick vacuum and shampoo won’t really do the trick, but don’t worry, we can help.
