Most Expensive Rugs in the World
Replacing the carpet in your home may seem expensive, but when compared to some of the most expensive carpets in the world, what you spend will seem like a drop in the bucket.
The most expensive carpet sold til just recently was a 7’5’’ by 5’7’’ silk Persian rug, made in the 16th or 17th century. The carpet was sold by Christie’s for a tidy sum of $4.45 million dollars. The rug previously belonged to a tobacco heiress who lest it the Newport Restoration Foundation upon her death. While this may seem astounding, the record may soon be broken. The Pearl Carpet of Baroda is set to be auctioned at Sotheby’s new office in Qatar, and the expected hammer value for this extravagant piece of art is $14.5 million. It seems a bit much until you realize that it features about 2 million seed pearls, is embossed with gold, and set with diamonds, emerald, and rubies.
Even if your carpeting isn’t worth millions, you still want to keep it looking its best. While it’s important to have your carpets cleaned on a regular basis, it just isn’t practical to call a professional cleaner every time you have a spill or stain. This is especially true if you have children or pets in your home. As silly as it seems, some of the best household stain removers can be found in your kitchen. Things like lemon juice, salt, vinegar, and cream of tartar can remove stains that you thought were impossible to get out. For organic stains such as wine, mix equal parts cream of tartar and white vinegar into a paste and apply to the stain. Let the paste sit for around 20 minutes and then rinse with warm water and blot dry with a clean, white cloth. Any powdery residue will vacuum away easily. As with any cleaner, you should test a small area for color fastness before using this on your carpet.
When it’s time to replace your carpet one of the first things that you will consider is your budget. After you set a price range however, there are other things to be taken into consideration as well. Among these things the most important is probably how much wear and tear the carpet will receive. If it is for a low traffic area such as a bedroom, your choice of fibers will be wider. If you are replacing the carpet in a high traffic area, like your family room or stairway, you will want a fiber that withstands the high traffic and takes cleaning easily.
